October 10, 2013
The CNS-ASU Science Café series on Citizen Science continues this month with a presentation on precipitation and climate science with Arizona State Climatologist Nancy Selover.
Dr. Selover acts as the state coordinator for the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow network, also known as CoCoRaHS. Her talk will showcase how CoCoRaHS uses citizen science from across the country to conduct the collection of quality precipitation data in a network much denser than traditional weather tracking stations alone can achieve. The talk will cover issues of quality control, recruitment and retention of observers, and the various ways in which the data is used.
The conversation will also explore how the network improves climate literacy and understanding of daily weather variability, as well as longer term climate trends.
More details about the project can be found at cocorahs.org and more infomration about the event can be found here. Hope you see you there!
