Our vision for the ISSP is to be the go-to place for science, technology and innovation (STI) dialogue, respected widely in Canada and abroad. Our mission is to build the knowledge and capacity to reach this goal. The ISSP carries out research, public outreach and education on three themes:
• Policy for STI: R&D and STI policies, regulations, standards, and codes
• STI for Policy: Use of evidence (and new technologies) in decision-making
• STI in Society: Public controversies, ethics and governance
The integration of these three themes is both essential and unique; there is no other centre in Canada with such an inclusive scope. We value inter-disciplinarity, with the aim to bridge the interface between science and policy, in a manner that is impartial, practical, international, and cutting edge.
VIRI Leader Marc Saner is director of the Institute for Science, Society and Policy and associate professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Ottawa.
