VIRI partners offer guest lecture to ASU graduate course on RI
VIRI partners Phil Macnaghten (University of Durham, UK) and Marko Monteiro (UNICAMP, Brazil) recently joined Ira Bennett's graduate-level Responsible Research and Innovation class by video. Macnaghten, who is currently on leave at UNICAMP from Durham, spoke about his work with Jack Stilgoe (UCL, UK) and Richard Owen (University of Exeter, UK) in devising a framework for responsible innovation and its application in the evaluation of a proposed geoengineering experiment. Monteiro spoke about the political history of research and innovation in Brazil as a context for discussing contemporary issues of responsible innovation there. Both speakers will be attending a panel on "Responsible Innovation in the Global Context" that VIRI director Dave Guston has organized for the upcoming annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in February, 2014, in Chicago.
