Science Café: Sheri Klug Boonstra, Mars Space Flight Facility

How do we improve public understanding of the costs, benefits and challenges of space exploration?

NASA hopes to send humans to Mars in 2030, but sustaining long-term support for space exploration is a perennial challenge. Two ASU programs—the Mars Student Imaging Project and the Rock Around the World program—engage students and citizens in authentic space science research opportunities, yielding improved understanding of not only space exploration, but scientific research in general.

Sheri Klug Boonstra has worked for over a decade as the director of the ASU Mars Education Program within the Mars Space Flight Facility, School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University. Ms. Klug Boonstra is the formal education lead for the Mars Public Engagement Team at Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA.
