This is the first event of a series going on throughout the academic year on Citizen Science. More information about the series can be found here.

How does citizen science work?

This talk will outline how citizens can participate in scientific research in public settings. The discussion will go over what makes a good research project, and how to balance effectiveness, ethics, and public interest.

Can ethical research be fun?

Several examples of public science projects will be shared, and the discussion of research ethics will review several famous cases addressing issues of privacy, risk and the public good.

Featuring:

Dr. Michael McBeath, Professor, ASU Department of Psychology

Dr. McBeath’s work focuses on perception in natural environments, with specialties that span sports, robotics, music, and navigation. His baseball research was published in Science, his dog Frisbee study was made fun of on Saturday Night Live, and his ball- catching robot was selected by the New York Times Magazine as one of its ideas of the year.

Hope to see you there!
