The CNS-ASU Network

North Carolina State University

NCSU has developed the world’s foremost university-based expertise in structured public deliberations about science and technology policymaking. Adapting the Danish “consensus conference” to the American context and pioneering the use of the Internet for public deliberation, an interdisciplinary team of scholars has conducted ten “Citizens’ Technology Forums” addressing genetically modified foods, climate change, and NSE, including both the first CTFs conducted entirely on the Internet and the first that linked two separate groups who deliberated collaboratively. NCSU is also home to significant expertise in NSE, including four NIRTs.
