NanoFutures is designed so that each participant can see others' contributions in real time, thus in principle allowing an ongoing assessment of nanotechnology.
As an experiment in open-source scenario development, the site is broadly accessible. To ensure that the scenes are interrogated from different social and professional perspectives, we've targeted the following communities to participate (although we hope every visitor to this website will contribute):
- Publics - Arizona State University alumni and citizen participants in the 2008 National Citizens' Technology Forum on Human Enhancement, Identity and Biology
- Social scientists - The Society for Social Studies of Science (4S) members
- Nano-interested people - Foresight Institute members
- Public policy folk: the Consortium for Science, Policy & Outcomes family mailing list
- Non-government organizations (NGOs) engaged with nanotechnology
- Scientists and engineers: Awarded grants through National Nanotechnology Initiative
